Location Selection

Select a geographic location for the astronomical calculations in your study. The location determines the observer's position, which is particularly important for topocentric studies where the observer's latitude, longitude, and altitude affect the computed positions.

Selecting a Location

Click the Location dropdown in any study's configuration panel and select from the list of available locations.

Managing Locations

Locations are managed through the Locations Editor, which is accessible from the toolbar or the Edit menu. Locations you add or modify in the editor become available in the Location dropdown for all studies.

Importance by Study Type

Study TypeLocation Impact
GeocentricMinimal effect on calculated positions
TopocentricDirectly affects all calculated positions due to parallax
HeliocentricMinimal effect on calculated positions
tip

For topocentric studies, always verify that the correct location is selected. Even small differences in location can produce noticeable changes in the Moon's calculated position.
